I recently reached 100k followers on Instagram, wow!
There’s a quote by Epicurus that says, “Do not spoil what you have by desiring what you have not; remember that what you now have was once among the things you only hoped for.”
This makes me take a step back and look around at what I’ve accomplished. Because in the rat race of life, I easily get caught up in trying to reach the next goal I have set for myself while forgetting to celebrate the current milestones.
When was the last time you slowed down and recognized how far you’ve come? Maybe you’re not exactly where you’d like to be. Maybe you still want that dream house, relationship, job, or to change cities. But before you get there, take inventory of all you’ve accomplished thus far. There are probably some things you have today that were once only hoped for or desired by you before you had them.
Sometimes we think that if something we’re aiming for isn’t happening in the moment, then it means it will never be possible. But just because it’s not happening right now, doesn’t mean that it never will. All good things take time.
When I started filming Food For Thought videos in my kitchen, I had no idea the impact or reach they were going to have. What started as a means to feel creative in my therapy business has led to so many more opportunities that I ever expected. It’s allowed me to embrace my creative side in a field that wants to put therapist’s in a box.
I vividly remember being told during graduate school orientation to not put myself on social media, to be a blank slate, to not show facial reactions during sessions and stay neutral. Not only did this make me feel fearful of being myself - human!, but this never felt relatable. And relatability is what makes us feel safe.
So today, I want to take a step back, look around at my surroundings, and honor my dedication, passions, and resilience. I’m so honored my posts have made so many people feel less alone. Thank you for embracing my creative side alongside me.
This 100K celebration is not just about the number. It’s about the community and connections built here. Thank you for being a part of this journey and for letting me be a part of yours. I cherish this space deeply and can’t wait to sit at the kitchen table with you for more conversations.
